The objective of a Helideck Operations Initial Training Course is to provide personnel with the knowledge, understanding, and skills required to perform their roles safely and effectively during helicopter operations in offshore environments.

Key objectives include:

  1. Understanding the principles and safety requirements of helicopter operations.
  2. Familiarizing participants with emergency procedures and the use of safety equipment.
  3. Learning roles and responsibilities during passenger embarkation and disembarkation.
  4. Understanding communication protocols between the helicopter crew and helideck personnel.
  5. Practicing safe loading and unloading procedures for cargo and passengers.
  6. Developing practical skills for handling emergencies such as helicopter ditching, fire, or evacuation.

The course aims to ensure that personnel can contribute to safe helicopter operations and respond effectively to both routine and emergency situations.

TARGET AUDIENCE

For personnel who are to be appointed to the role of an Offshore Helicopter Landing Officer (HLO) and/or Offshore Helideck Assistant (HDA).

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Learners must meet basic medical fitness requirements such as:

A. A valid, current offshore medical certificate

OR

B. An operator approved medical certificate

AND

C. Undergoes medical screening by
completing an appropriate medical
screening form provided by IMOSTI, Inc.

TRAINING PRE-REQUISITE

As a minimum, learners must have completed Dangerous Goods by Air training course in accordance with Part 1 of the ICAO Technical Instructions and sub section 1.5 of the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations, Functions 7.2, 7.4 and 7.5, previously categories 7, 8 or 9 or state aviation approved dangerous goods awareness training course.
